The Boathouse

Hong Kong

We went to Stanley on Sunday, late afternoon, and it was the hottest day during our trip and the crowd made it worse. We walked around Murray House and Stanley Market, but we didn’t last long due to the heat.

My friend was keen to try The Boathouse after hearing good reviews. We had to queue in the scorching sun for a while, lest we got in the way of the busy staffs. Despite having 3 storeys, the seats at ground floor had the fastest turnaround.

The reason was obvious after I’m seated (at the ground floor). My back was roasted for an hour-ish, even though there was this huge umbrella over my head. Thankfully, the food were great.

Second BreezeHKD 70
I didn’t had a sip of it, my friend mentioned it tasted decent. There was a couple of tiny green insects drowned in the drink, so I reckon it’s pretty good.

Rotten AppleHKD 70
I was attracted by the word, FROZEN, on the description due to the atrocious heat building up on my back. It tasted subtly sour and tad refreshing, otherwise not much flavour for this drink. On the bright side (or down side), I couldn’t tell if any insect drowned in my drink.

Bucket of Seafood (Small Assorted)HKD 188
This was one of their recommended dishes; there were 3 choices for sauce: lobster broth, white wine garlic cream sauce, and pesto cream. We opted for white wine garlic cream sauce and it complimented the natural sweetness seafood really well! It was mildly sweet and creamy.

All the seafood were really fresh, substantially sized, and cooked to perfection! This dish compensated for the overcooked prawns we had the previous night. For your benefit, I counted the servings for small portion; there were 9 mussels, 3 clams, and 2 prawns.

Pan-fried Salmon FilletHKD 198
It was a nice thick slab of salmon. The middle part of the salmon was slight rare, which was great otherwise it might be too tough. The sauce for this dish was mellow as compared to the white wine garlic cream sauce, but it was still tasted good. The other ingredients (e.g. potatoes, clams, and etc.) on the plate were great too.

The total bill was HKD 580 for 2 people, inclusive of 10% services charge for mediocre services.

The Boathouse is an iconic building on Stanley Main Street. It was classified Grade 3, which partially defined that preservation in some form would be desirable, by Hong Kong Antiquities Advisory Board. Unfortunately, The Boathouse might be facing the fate of demolition, do make a visit soon!
