Hung Sing Delish Egg Tarts
This cake shop was selling traditional, old-fashion cakes and pastries. There was a tray of freshly baked egg tarts on the counter, and these egg tarts were only placed into their wrappers upon order; I assumed it was done to keep the egg tarts warm (for a longer time).
I ordered one egg tart, and I was frowned upon. 😔 The staff/owner was all ready to pack a box of six and she was unconvinced that I actually wanted one. Looks like their egg tarts were really popular. I got a seat at the corner, under the shades, near MTR Exit C to savour the egg tart
Wow! This egg tart was really amazing! The crust was crumbly, crispy, and had a nice buttery aroma. The egg custard was incredibly soft, silky. If I’m to compare Hung Sing with Tai Cheong, Tai Cheong egg tart crust was denser and thicker but they were both as good, subject to preference. As for the egg custard, in terms of texture and taste, Hung Sing definitely won hands-down.
Shau Kei Wan station is near the far end of MTR Island line (blue), it is an area that was rarely explored. I was at this neighbourhood to shop for toys and found this cake shop by chance.
I did a little research; Hung Sing Cake Shop was established decades ago, despite having minimal publicity, it seemed quite well-received for its egg tarts, cakes, and breads. The handful of reviews was pretty consistent throughout the years.
If time is on your side, I’ll highly recommend going by for their yummy egg tarts! Hung Sing Egg Tarts are worthy for money and guaranteed satisfying! Hung Sing Egg Tarts are priced at HKD 3.50 each, whereas Tai Cheong Egg Tarts are priced at HKD 9 each.
