九份二山國家地震紀念地 | 921 Earthquake National Memorial Site

A massive 7.3 earthquake struck Taiwan on 21 Sep, 1999. This memorial site is located at the exact location where the earthquake struck, thus you can witness damaging effects of the earthquake from the remnants. There are few locations you can visit around the memorial site by referring to the signage, but I only been to two places – the slanted house (No. 7 傾斜屋) and earthquake struck point (No. 8 震爆點) due to time constraint.

The slanted house had very strong magnetic field, and you might find it challenging to walk in a straight line in the house, you’ll most likely walking slanted. When I ventured deeper into the house, headache started to develop, supposing due to the magnetic field.

At the earthquake struck point, you’ll be able to see how the ground was “unearth”. It was so bad that there wasn’t much sign/sight of life despite after many years. If you look closely on the photo, you will realize how far the house had flung away from the struck point, this will give you a gauge of the impact of the earthquake.
