好,丘 | Good Cho's

Taipei, Taiwan

A good quiet spot for you to rest your feet and satisfy your taste buds at the same time! This is a must-go cafe for bagel lovers! It has a huge variety of freshly baked bagel, nicely lined up at the counter, for takeaways. Needless to say, their coffee is something to look forward as well!

Good Cho’s is not just a cafe, there are also lifestyle products for sale. I visited the outlet at Xinyi District, there were a variety of organic products and merchandises that include fruit jams, tea, apparels, etc. As a business strategy to promote sales, the products and merchandises were displayed near the entrance, whereas the cafe section (takeaway and dining area) was at the back.

Reaching the cafe section, you will see the bagels lined up for takeaways. You can view the flavours at their online shop, but not all the flavours were available in store. I purchased a flavour that was most appealing to me, which was cheese and sweet potato. As it was a takeway bagel, I was requested to order an item from the dine-in menu to be seated.

On a drizzling chilling morning, hot coffee was an obvious option. I ordered the recommended Alishan coffee, it was really good! This coffee started my adventure with black coffees.

The bagel, priced at TWD 45, was probably one of the best bagels I had. I liked the texture, it wasn’t as tough compared to the bagels I tried before. The cheese and sweet potato bagel had a mild cheesey taste which complimented the sweetness from the sweet potato; the flavours were well-blended. Having said that, I’m not a fan of bagels hence might not ate enough to pass a confident judgement.

The Alishan Coffee was priced at TWD 154, it was comparable to the price of an average Venti Starbucks. The coffee was served without any condiments, which was baffling to me as I rarely had black coffee. Though I’m skeptical but decided to drink it as served, assuming the coffee was intended to be savour as such. I took my first sip while enjoying the aroma of the coffee; the coffee tasted light yet full of fragrance. I began to appreciated the coffee after a few sips, as it had a great aftertaste.

There are a few outlets in Taipei, but I dropped by the outlet at Xinyi due to its proximity to Forty-Four South Village (which has free admission). If you’re planning to visit Good Cho’s on weekend, consider visiting Simple Market, which is set up at the compound between Good Cho’s and Forty-Four South Village. The Simple Market, sells local handicrafts and organic products, open on 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month and every Sunday.
